October 19, 2012 (Chinavestor) Just to give an idea for China stock investors what the landscape looks like in Asia, consider the following chart. It tracks the performance of components of key regional indexes, such as the Hang Seng Index (INDEXHANGSENG:.HSI) and the Shanghai Composite Index (SHA:000001) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDEXDJX:.DJI) from last night.
There wasn't much direction for either Asian index on Friday. The Hang Seng Index (INDEXHANGSENG:.HSI) advanced a mere 0.2% while the Shanghai Composite Index (SHA:000001) shed just as much. Bargain hunters bought shares of power generators such as Huaneng Power (NYSE:HNP) and Datang Power (HKG:0991) in HK along with shares of China Eastern Airlines (HKG:0670). But profit taking took a toll on shipping companies whose shares rocked the boat earelir the week. See bottom five components of the Hang Seng Index (INDEXHANGSAENG:.HSI) as well as the Shanghai Composite on Friday.
