June 18, 2012 (Chinavestor) Reading news from China is always fun. You never know when you run into something shocking. Most investors probably don't know that Petrochina Co. Ltd. (NYSE:PTR) was the first company ever to reach market capitalisation of over $1 trillion, even for a short period of time in late 2007 after the maiden Shanghai IPO. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), the most valuable company in the world right now, is worth half of that today.
Another shocker was to see China Mobile (NYSE:CHL) adding mobile subscribers at an astonishing rate over the years. The company has more subscriber now than the entire population of the US, Brazil and Mexico combined.
Or how about the largest IPO ever - surprise... a Chinese Bank - 农行 ! Agribultural Bank of China (SHA:601288)(HKG:1288) went public in 2010 raining the most during an IPO ever! The second largest IPO... another Chinese bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
Today's shocker: those who follow the ongoing European Cup and the mastery of the Italian team may appreciate the following news.
Marcello Lippi, the world's best soccer manager by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics both in 1996 and 1998, and world's best National coach in 2006 is coaching what team right now?...
Guangzhou Evergrande. Official Website for those of you NEVER hear of such club before.
Oh, don't forget that Lippi "was the first coach to win the most prestigious international competitions both for clubs and for national teams (the Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup in 1996 with Juventus and the FIFA World Cup in 2006 with Italy)" Source: Wikipedia.org
