U.S. investments in clean energy rose to $4.9 billion while in Europe it fell to $4.5 billion, according to Bloomberg News. China was the world leader in installed wind power projects last year, installing 14 gigawatts of wind power. China's $586 billion stimulus package and rapidly expanding economy are seen as catalysts behind the clean-energy surge in the country.
Global investment in clean-energy projects reached $58.4 billion in the first half of this year, a 21% gain over the same period a year earlier, Bloomberg reported. Clean-energy firms raised $2.6 billion on public exchanges through the first half of this year, a jump almost 30% from a year earlier.
In the past four quarters, China has garnered $40.3 billion in clean-energy investments.
