Shares of Chinese ADRs followed suit tracking Wall Street lower this week. As the following table sums it all up, Chinese ADRs fell -4.2% this week, on average. Losers outnumbered stocks that closed higher for the week by 35 to 11.
Large cap stocks were no match for the turbulent events of the week. china's second and third largest airliners by fleet size fell 17.2 and 10.4 percent, respecively. Yanzhou Coal (YZC) fell -13.2 percent on price cap of coal introduced this week. This and a price increase of electricity by 4.6% helped Huaneng Power (HNP) to avoid disaster. The stock lost a moderate 2.4 percent. Aluminum Corp. of China (ACH), the world's third largest alumina maker, fell -12.8 percent before announcing a weak performance due to soft alumina prices coupled with increased production costs. Bauxite and price of electricity are all up while overcapacity hammered alumina producers. It seems as if things will get worse before they get better for Chalco.

Despite all the bloadbath we've seen, there is one stock that looks very good from technical point of view. See technical chart of UTStarcom Inc. below summary table. Looks as if UTSI broke resistence level of $3 at the end of April and has been on fire ever since. The stock is up 72% since May 2nd. with no sign of slowing down.

Beijing move to increase gasoline and diesel prices helped big refiners, Sinopec (SNP) and PetroChina (PTR) to stay ahead for the week however Friday's disastrous performance reminded investors that the party for refiners is not over yet.
