China's largest coal miner by output reported a 13.3% increase in commercial coal production in May 2008 from a year ago. Export of Chinese coal came to a standstill in 2007 as China is struggling to feed its growing electricity demand. Nearly two-thirds of Chinese electricity is generated by unsing coal fired power plans. The winter storm related coal supply shortages just highlightened the problems facing both the cola nad the power generating industry.

Due to strong coal prices the company reported a net increase of 19.4% in total revenues. Additionally the company generated 7.46 billion kwh in May up 33.7% from a year ago.

China's coal mines are diversifying into power generation, China Shenhua being one of producing the most electricity. Yanzhou Coal, China's NYSE listed coal miner, has just started to enter into power generation but government controlled wholesale power prices are squeezing the sector oout of profits, hurting Huaneng Power (HNP) and other independent electricity generators.

Here comes the internal data of Shenhua Energy in May 2008.
